Welcome to the personal website of David Bermudez, Professor of Theoretical Physics at the Department of Physics of the Center for Research and Advanced Studies (Cinvestav) in Mexico City. Here you can learn about my research in analogue gravity, quantum optics, and nonlinear optics, together with my publications, current projects, teaching activities, and scientific outreach. My research uses optical systems as quantum simulators to investigate fundamental phenomena at the interface of quantum mechanics and gravity.
I received my MSc in 2010 and my PhD in 2013 from Cinvestav in Mexico City. From 2013 to 2015, I was a postdoctoral fellow at the Weizmann Institute of Science. Since 2015, I've been a Professor of Theoretical Physics in the Department of Physics at Cinvestav.
My research focuses on quantum simulation in the context of analogue gravity, primarily using ultrashort light pulses in optical fibers to study quantum field theory in curved spacetime (QFTCS). This interdisciplinary field combines quantum theory, nonlinear optics, and general relativity to study phenomena usually associated with gravity in laboratory optical systems. Together with my students, I develop theoretical and numerical models in close collaboration with experiments. These studies provide new ways to investigate phenomena that are otherwise inaccessible, such as Hawking radiation and QFTCS.
